established in 1975, maintains the Theater Horseshoe, primarily aimed at children. The theater engages in diverse audience outreach and produces art therapy. According to the association's rules, the purpose of the support association is to promote puppet theater and toy and play culture among children, introduce puppet theater and toy and play culture to the public, and preserve the traditions of puppet theater as well as toy and play culture. The ultimate goal of puppet theater and toy and play culture work is to foster the development of a child's overall personality."
The support association appoints the board, to which the city of Espoo nominates two of its own representatives. Theater and Toy Museum Hevosenkenkä is managed by theater manager Kirsi Siren. He has worked as a theater director in the theater he founded throughout its operation. The theater director plans the program together with the artistic department. The theater has 13 full-time employees. In addition, many actors, directors, set designers and composers visit the theater. The theater operates in renovated and newly constructed premises owned by the city of Espoo in four different buildings on Juhannusmäki in Mankka. Teatteri Hevosenkenkä is a theater covered by the State Cooperative Act and its operation is supported by both the Ministry of Education and Culture and the city of Espoo.
Teatteri Hevosenkengän Kannatusyhdistyksen alaisuudessa toimivat myös Museo Leikki, Tapiolassa sekä Juhannusmäellä sijaitseva Tusculum Hevosenkenkä. Nämä kolme muodostavat yhdessä Lastenkulttuurikeskus Hevosenkengän.
Teatteri Hevosenkenkä on Suomen Teatterit ry:n jäsenteatteri. Lastenkulttuurikeskus Hevosenkenkä kuuluu Suomen lastenkulttuurikeskusten liittoon.
